A young woman was killed by her child’s father while holding their baby in her arms.
On Wednesday, DeKalb County police were called to Education Elevation Children Academy after 21-year-old Mic’keya Montgomery was shot.
Mic’keya was shot and killed by her child’s father, Taco Nash, while he was wearing an ankle monitor. Mic’keya went to the daycare to pick up their daughter when Nash popped up with a gun out of nowhere. Daycare workers attempted to stop Nash but weren’t successful, according to Fox 5 Atlanta.
“She was saying, ‘No,’ you know, and asking for help. Yelling out for help, he got into a physical altercation with them (daycare workers) and threatened to kill everybody, and so they ended up just having to let her, you know, go with him,” the victim’s sister said.
Mic’keya’s family says she ran to a wooded area behind the daycare, trying to escape. Nash then shot and killed Mic’keya as she clutched their daughter.
“She had been holding her because there was blood splatter all over Khloe. She was covered in… covered in blood,” the sister added.
The encounter was captured on the daycare’s surveillance video. Nash surrendered to authorities once they arrived minutes later.
Mic’keya and Nash’s relationship was not the healthiest. Mic’keya’s family says Nash shot Mic’keya two years ago. They claim he physically beat her in March 2020. They also said she called the police on two other occasions, all domestic-related. All four times, Nash was granted bond after he was charged. The family says Mic’keya stayed with him out of fear.
“He shot her with my sister witnessing it. He shot at my nephew, got arrested, and let out on bond. Then later, holding the baby hostage got arrested for that being put on an ankle monitor. After that beating her, going to her home beating her, getting arrested again, and still being released in another county with an ankle monitor on his leg,” the victim’s aunt said.
