Italian luxury sports car company Ferrari announced its plans for electric vehicles.
On Thursday, CEO Benedetto Vigna outlined Ferrari’s 2022-2026 strategic plan to transition to electric vehicles (EV) in the future. The sports car maker plans to target 80% of sales by 2030 to be battery electric (both hybrid and fully electric).
“We believe we can use the electric engine to enhance the performance of our cars,” Vigna says.
To achieve this, Ferrari is planning 15 new product launches between 2023 and 2026. This includes its Purosangue SUV, unveiled in September of this year. The company also confirmed its first-ever full-electric car will be revealed in 2025.
By 2026, the company expects its product portfolio to be 40% ICE (internal combustion) and 60% battery electric vehicles. However, Ferrari says ICE engines are still a part of the company’s game plan. They added that the powertrains would be evolving in the future.
Ferrari has been using and developing hybrid powertrains since the debut of the LaFerrari hybrid supercar. The technology is currently featured in the 296 sports car and the SF90.
Ferrari says its electric engines will be “designed, handcrafted and assembled in Maranello. To ensure a unique driving experience also derived from racing solutions.”
Nevertheless, Vigna promises that Ferrari drivers will fully control the vehicle. He added that there would never be a self-driving Ferrari.
