The principal of a Pennsylvania High school was arrested and charged after having a 7-year sexual relationship with a male student.
On Tuesday, court documents revealed that Roger Weaver Freed, 34, was charged with 30 counts of indecent contact with a student, one count of sexual assault, one count of aggravated indecent assault, one count of corrupting a minor, and three misdemeanor counts of providing alcohol to a minor.
It was reported that the partnership began in 2015 when the student was in middle school and later turned sexual. Despite the boy graduating high school, the relationship continued until April this year.
According to the affidavit, the student claimed to have initially become close to Freed after a family member passed away. He started to rely on the teacher for emotional support and claimed that he “trusted Free like an older brother.”
As the relationship developed, they began spending more time together outside the classroom. Freed offered to drive the students to various locations to have “one-on-one conversations.”
The student claimed that he and the teacher were “bros” and that they could discuss everything, including his sexuality. According to investigators, they regularly texted, contacted, and FaceTimed one another.
After Freed and the student became sexually involved in 2017, the principal requested the boy not to tell anyone because he could lose his job.
According to the affidavit, the student claimed that following the initial sexual contact, he had “overwhelming guilt.”
Throughout the student’s subsequent two years of high school, the pair continued to have sex four to five times a week. As he entered college and graduated high school, the student informed investigators that their relationship remained intact.
After posting a $175,000 bond, Freed was arraigned on Tuesday and released under supervision. He is compelled to wear an ankle monitor and is not allowed to speak to the victim or any minors.
According to PennLive, Freed, a Williamsport Area High School principal, has been placed on paid administrative leave by the school board.
