Pennsylvania Woman Stuffs Grandmother’s Body In Freezer, Collects Her Social Security Check For Years

A Pennsylvania woman will spend time behind bars for keeping her dead grandmother inside a home freezer while she collected her social security checks.

The disturbing discovery was made in February 2019 when law enforcement responded to a home in Dillsburg. Two potential buyers of the foreclosed home phoned them after touring the residence and observing black garbage bags containing skeleton remains inside a basement freezer. Police searched for past owners of the property and found that Cynthia Black was the most recent one.

Upon questioning, Black admitted that the remains were that of her grandmother, Glenora Delahay. The woman passed away in 2004 in Blacks home while the two lived in Ardmore. Black never reported the death and instead continued collecting her Social Security benefits. Between 2001 and 2010, Social Security paid Delahay $186,000, despite her being dead for six of those years.

Last week, a judge sentenced Black to a minimum of 11 months to a maximum of 23 months after being found guilty on charges of receiving stolen property and theft by deception. Black will also serve two years probation for abusing a corpse after her release. Authorities do not believe she killed Delahay but that she found her dead.

She will begin serving her time on July 15th at York County Prison.
