Two people were killed and at least 19 injured in a mass shooting outside two gay bars in Oslo, Norway. Investigators say they are looking at the shooting as an act of terrorism.

CNN reports that the shooting happened outside the London Pub, which bills itself ad the “largest gay and lesbian venue” in the city. Police were called to the area at about 1:14 a.m. and arrived just minutes later.

When authorities arrived, they found a chaotic scene with wounded people on the ground both inside and outside the bar. Several of the injured were taken to an area hospital, with three of the wounded listed in critical condition.

Police say one suspect was taken into custody but have not identified him. The outlet reports that the suspect is a Norwegian citizen, originally from Iran, and is “known to the police.” The man has been charged with murder, attempted murder, and terror acts.

A witness told a Norwegian media outlet they saw the man show up at the scene with a bag. Then, he picked up a gun and started shooting.

The country is celebrating gay pride this month, and Saturday’s Pride parade was canceled. Despite being asked to stay home, many people showed up to march in protest against violence toward hate, and violence.

Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre sent his condolences to the victims on Facebook, denouncing the shooting.

“My thoughts go to the victims and their relatives,” Støre said. “We do not yet know what was behind this terrible act, but to the queer community who are now scared and in mourning, I want to say that we are all with you.”

The extreme violence of this nature is typically rare in Norway, making it shocking for the country’s residents.

The people of #Oslo are marching to support #LGBTQ persons today. The formal parade may have been canceled, but the community is marching to show they will not be intimidated by hate or violence. Am with everyone in spirit. #Oslove pic.twitter.com/ZgTt465iZ0
