Plan B contraceptive

Following the US Supreme Court’s decision to reverse Roe v. Wade last week, a new report claims that some major US pharmacies are restricting sales of morning-after contraceptive pills due to increased demand.

According to the Wall Street Journal, retailers like CVS and Walgreens are restricting purchases of their in-store products.

Taking the pills after unprotected sex prevents pregnancy by delaying ovulation or keeping eggs from attaching to the uterus.

According to a CVS representative, the restrictions were implemented to guarantee “equitable access” to contraceptives like Plan B pills, which are accessible over the counter without a prescription.

The morning-after prescription medications are still in plentiful supply, according to CVS. A doctor’s prescription is necessary to obtain these drugs, which are frequently used to end pregnancies up to 10 weeks.

Plan B pill listings on Amazon sometimes indicated low stock levels despite high demand.

There have been allegations of price increases on various online marketplaces due to inventories depleting.
