Actor Clifton Powell is offering his son words of wisdom after it was revealed that the young man is dating Sasha Obama.
The “Saints & Sinners” star joined the Dear Fathers podcast last week, where he dished on Clifton Powell Jr.’s relationship with former President Barack Obama’s youngest daughter. According to Powell, the couple was together for over a year before their relationship made it to media outlets. He says he believes he has a “responsibility” to ensure that his son treats Sasha in a “responsible, gentle, kind, loving, and supportive” manner.
“I text him all the time, and I say, ‘Treat Sasha like you would want somebody to treat your daughter,” Powell said.
The press initially caught wind of their relationship back in April when the couple was spotted taking a stroll in L.A.
Sasha and Powell Jr. have been dating since the former First Daughter transferred from the University of Michigan to the University of California in August 2021. Powell Jr. attended USC on a four-year basketball scholarship. However, he left college to focus on a career in film. He is now a commercial director, creating projects for Peloton and Nike.
Powell says he did not always treat women kindly, but with his current relationship, he has grown to be a better man and wants his son to learn from his mistakes.
