In the days since Roe v. Wade was overturned, Justice Clarence Thomas has made several unsavory statements.
Now, the Supreme Court judge is falsely claiming that the COVID-19 vaccine was created from “aborted children.”
On Thursday, Thomas cited the deceptive rhetoric in a dissent that came in a decision by the Supreme Court not to hear a case presented by New York, health care workers. They were challenging the state’s vaccine mandate on religious grounds.
Thomas wrote that the medical professionals “object” to the state’s vaccine mandate on religious grounds “because they were developed using cell lines derived from aborted children.”
The idea that COVID-19 vaccines are made from aborted fetuses had been debunked during the vaccine’s development. When it was learned that Pfizer and Moderna used fetal cell lines early in the creation of their COVID-19 vaccine to assess the efficiency of their formulations, the claim gained traction among conspiracy theorists. Other vaccines have used this method in the past. The fetal tissue utilized in these techniques originated from elective abortions that took place years prior. The cells have since reproduced numerous times. Therefore no original tissue is used in the production of modern vaccines.
COVID-19 vaccines contain messenger RNA. This genetic material instructs cells in the body to create proteins, which then train the immune system to fight off the potentially deadly virus.
Thomas has not made an effort to correct this citing.
