Bobby Crimo III

Now that Robert “Bobby” E. Crimo III is in the custody of local authorities, he will likely be charged today, Highland Park Mayor Nancy Rotering stated.

Like many other mass shootings, Crimo was able to purchase the rifle he used legally.

The suspect was spotted by police in North Chicago during an attempted traffic stop, but he fled. Authorities were able to stop him in Lake Forest, where he was taken into custody without incident, CBS News reported.

The 4th of July mass shooting left six people dead and dozens injured.

Officials say the shooting happened around 10:15 a.m. during the July 4th parade. Crimo allegedly opened fire from a nearby rooftop using a high-powered rifle.

Since the tragic incident, the Mayor has said that gun laws need to change because at this point these shootings are happening almost weekly.

“I think it’s pretty clear what needs to be done. We need this nation to have a very strong conversation about what it means if we are coming together to celebrate our freedom and independence and people have to face a terrorist on a rooftop with guns that were obtained legally. That’s a problem,” she added.

It is still unclear whether the suspect purchased the gun directly.
