Jerry Harris, a star of the hit Netflix docuseries “Cheer” was sentenced Tuesday to 12 years in prison in his sex crimes case.
Federal prosecutors say the 22-year-old solicited sex from minors and pressured young boys to send him nude photos and videos.
Back in February, Harris pleaded guilty to two of seven felony counts against him, one for sexually assaulting a 15-year-old in the bathroom at a cheerleading competition and the other for paying a 17-year-old to send him sexually explicit photos and videos for money via Snapchat. He also admitted to similar acts with other underaged individuals, however, prosecutors agreed to drop the remaining five counts under a plea agreement.
Harris was arrested in September 2020 after the FBI began investigating him in 2019.
The ex-cheerleader was a breakout star in Netflix’s “Cheer” which debuted on the streaming platform in 2020. Details of his legal drama were recounted in the series’ second season which was released earlier this year.
