Former Nascar driver Bobby East was fatally stabbed while pumping gas from a California gas station on Wednesday. The suspect was shot and killed by police.
Police responded to a 76 gas station around 5:51 p.m. Wednesday evening. East was located on the ground with a stab wound to the chest.
He was taken to an area hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The suspect initially fled the scene before officers arrived at the gas station. On Friday, the Westminster Police Department received a tip that the suspect, 27-year-old Trent William Millsap, was in an Anaheim apartment.
Millsap, who was wanted on an outstanding parole warrant, “became confrontational” when West County SWAT attempted to pick him up on the warrant. He was fatally shot by police.
A K-9 suffered a non-threatening gunshot wound at the scene.
The motive behind the stabbing remains unknown. Westminster police, the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, and the Justice Department will investigate the officer-involved shooting.
