Amazon has filed a lawsuit against the people who are operating 10,000 Facebook groups for creating fake reviews.
According to Engadget, the popular online marketplace, Amazon, is suing the individuals who launched a slew of Facebook groups that the company claims were created to pump out fake reviews about products and experiences.
The lawsuit mentions more than 10,000 Facebook groups were created, alleging that the administrators’ goal was to bamboozle the company out of money or to get free products.
As part of the plot, the administrators would allegedly hire people from various countries, including Europe, the U.S., the U.K., Japan, and more, and pay them to do poor reviews on the company’s products. One of the largest groups, which was called Amazon Product Review, had more than 43,000 members. It’s since been pulled by Facebook.
Amazon’s quest to take down fake review scammers has been going on since 2015. The news outlet reports that the company has reported more than 1,000 paid review groups to social networks since 2021.
