Disney is going to replace the “fairy godmothers” title at its theme parks with gender-neutral “apprentices.”
The crew that helps children dress up as their favorite Disney characters will no longer go by their original names “Fairy Godmothers in Training,” and instead will sport a new name “Fairy Godmother’s Apprentices.”
This comes as Disney’s latest move to be more diverse and inclusive as a company. This will allow employees who don’t identify as women to express their gender identity. Last year, Disney began removing “ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls” from scripts and rhetoric.
The boutique gives child guests who are between the ages 3 to 12 a full makeover to transform them into princesses or knights using makeup and hair props.
