Former MLB star Bo Jackson shares that he donated to cover the cost of the Uvalde victims.

Earlier this week, Jackson revealed that he donated $170,000 to help with the funeral expenses of the Ulvade shooting victims. Jackson says he doesn’t have any connection with the city but felt obligated to help out.

“Uvalde is a town that sticks in your mind. Just the name,” Jackson said. “I don’t know a soul there. It just touched me.”

“I don’t know if it’s because I’m getting old,” said Jackson, a father of three and a grandfather as he nears 60. “It’s just not right for parents to bury their kids. It’s just not right.”

He continued, “I know every family there probably works their butts off just to do what they do. The last thing they needed was to shell out thousands of dollars for something that never should have happened.”

Three days following the massacre, Jackson flew to Texas to meet up with Gov. Greg Abbott. At the time, the governor said an anonymous donor covered the expenses. However, Jackson says he wasn’t keeping the contribution a secret but didn’t feel compel to share the news until now.

“We didn’t want media,” he said. “No one knew we were there.”

Earlier this year, a gunman entered Robb Elementary School in Uvalde and murdered 19 students and two teachers.

“I don’t want to turn this into anything (but) what it is. I was just trying (with the donation) to put a little sunshine in someone’s cloud, a very dark cloud,” Jackson said.
