The Biden administration is about to buy 66 million doses of an updated COVID-19 vaccine that targets the Omicron variant.
On Friday, it was announced that the Biden administration settled on a deal with Moderna to purchase 66 million doses of a COVID-19 vaccine that specifically helps protect people against the Omicron variant, which is more easily spread person-to-person.
Those who are looking to receive the new vaccine can expect it to be available by this fall. That is if the FDA’s Center for Biologics and Research signs off on its regulation.
Omicron and its sub-variant BA.5 have launched a new wave of infections across the country, with BA.5 being the dominant strain right now. As of July 20, 2022, there have been a total of 89,824,190 reported COVID-19 cases in the United States.
