A Bronx smash-and-grab carried out against a jewelry store Friday netted the thieves more than $2.15 million in diamond jewels.
The brazen robbery, carried out in broad daylight at Rocco’s Jewelry, was captured on surveillance video. The footage shows a suspect in a white t-shirt, jeans, and baseball cap acting like a customer.
When a manager buzzes him into the locked store, three people dressed in black and wearing masks run into the store. They immediately began smashing the glass cases and grabbing what they could.
“Once inside the store, the three individuals used a hammer to smash open the display cases and removed a large amount of high-end diamond jewelry,” according to police.
The entire time the crew is inside, the suspect in the white t-shirt remains by the door as a lookout.
The men quickly threw the jewelry into bags and then fled the store on foot. Police said they ran south on Webster Avenue.
NYPD believes the crew may be linked to other similar robberies that have occurred in the Bronx and Brooklyn. The retail burglaries date back to February.
Anyone with information regarding thefts is asked to call NYPD Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS.
