Busta Rhymes is set to receive Broadcast Music Inc.’s R&B and Hip-Hop Icon Award.
On September 7, the 50-year-old hip-hop giant will be accepting the organization’s highest honor. BMI chose to highlight Busta’s contribution to hip-hop when it comes to his music, production, and songwriting.
BMI Vice President for Creatives Catherine Brewton says, “Through his award-winning solo work, countless collaborations and acting, Busta is a true innovator in every sense of the word. He has made a dynamic impact on legions of fans and music creators worldwide. His quick wit and intricate rapping style have made him legendary, inspiring many young performers to follow in his footsteps.”
Busta has been widely recognized for his writing skills in his ten studio albums and three collaborative albums. He has also been coined one of the top 50 lyricists of all time.
BMI President and CEO Mike O’Neill will be hosting the 2022 award show. During the event, awards for the BMI R&B/hip-hop songwriter, producer, and publisher of the year will be announced.
According to Variety, BMI is excited to return to Miami for the in-person event celebrating music creators responsible for today’s most-performed songs.
