Two teens have been arrested after they were caught on camera brutally beating a transgender teen who was previously beaten up last year at school while being called homophobic slurs.
Back in 2021, 14-year-old Chad Sanford’s attack by a group of older children at Deerfield Beach Middle School made national headlines. Now, Sanford, who no longer attends the school, has been attacked again after being lured to a gathering with people who they thought were their friends.
“They came behind me and jumped me,” said Chad, explaining the attack. He added that the attackers said to him, “Don’t come around me with that gay sh*t,” Local 10 News reports.
The two teens are being charged with misdemeanor crimes, including battery and a crime of prejudice under Florida law. If they are charged with a hate crime, they could serve up to five years in prison.
There may be a possible third teen who was involved in the attack, which took place in a neighborhood park. However, video footage that captured the attack reportedly isn’t clear enough to show if there was a third person.
