To celebrate National Lemonade Day, Chipotle has unveiled an exciting candle paying homage to customers who mistakenly put lemonade in their water cups.
The “Water” Cup Candle arrived just in time for the August 20th holiday, which celebrates the almost 400-year-old beverage. The Chipotle soy candle is shaped like the restaurant’s water cups with the “H20” and “Chipotle Mexican Grill” logos on it. Customers can expect the sweet citrusy scent of fresh lemonade.
The fast-food chain has long joked on social media about their customers using the free water cups they offer to “accidentally” fill up with lemonade. As far back as 2018, the company joked on Twitter about possibly developing a candle dedicated to the pesky lemonade snatchers.
Chipotle debuted the $28 candle on August 18th, and it quickly sold out online in their “Chipotle Goods” store, where they sell merchandise such as t-shirts, slides, and hats. With each candle purchase, buyers were given a voucher for a free lemonade in any of their 3,000 U.S. locations.
This is not the first time Chipotle used online banter to develop a new quirky product. In December, the restaurant launched a limited-edition cilantro soap after several customers complained about their cilantro having a soapy taste.
Sadly, it is unclear if Chipotle will be restocking the candle anytime soon.
