A Wisconsin school district is standing on its ban to forbid teachers from showing Pride-related items or providing their preferred pronouns in email.
For 10 years, Wisconsin’s Kettle Moraine School District has had a policy that restricts its instructors from exhibiting “partisan politics, sectarian religious views, or selfish propaganda.” And this week, the district upheld its policy despite some pushback over its decision to block teachers from representing their gender identity through products, items or even email signatures.
“We’re in a world where politics are highlighted, and it puts people in uncomfortable positions, said Stephen Plum, the district’s superintendent in a July board meeting, CNN reports. The district also doesn’t allow Black Lives Matter or Make America Great Again to be shown on campus.
Since then, petitions against the ban have been posted. One, in particular, has gained more than 13,000 signatures. CNN reports there are more than 10 schools and 3,500 students the school district oversees and ranges.
