Singer Sparkle denies that she made her niece sit on R. Kelly’s lap and rub his head to convince him to be her godfather.
Sparkle, unfortunately, finds herself in the middle of Kelly’s child pornography trial once again. The singer’s niece, who’s allegedly the 14-year-old girl on the infamous 2008 sex tape, recently claimed Sparkle encouraged her to ask Kelly to be her godfather by enticing him. She says her aunt told her to sit on his lap and rub his head.
However, Sparkle says that was definitely not true. On Friday, Sparkle took to Instagram to address the allegations against her. She began by saying the situation is a “family feud” and a plan to “take her down.”
“Absolutely NOT! I can’t help the lies told on me & under oath at all… & cause ya momma mad at me cause y’all were FORCED to testify,” she said.
She continued to explain that she and Kelly were never romantically involved as her niece claimed. The singer admitted to introducing her niece to Kelly but had good intentions.
“We were a gospel group just years prior, so me thinking about them for them was partly programmed in me. Again, Because Robert was given the opportunity to have his own imprint, record label, I introduced my sister, my brother-in-law, and my niece to Robert at CRC studios in 1997 in hopes of landing my niece a career in this industry. Not a concert as she testified,” she said.
Prosecutors are pushing for Kelly to receive an additional conviction for other charges. He has already been sentenced to 30 years behind bars after being found guilty of sex trafficking and racketeering by a New York jury last month.
