Police have detained nearly two dozen gang members and their leader for allegedly carrying out a string of violent robberies and home invasions targeting celebrities’ homes in Atlanta.
“They’re not afraid to confront people, so if they target a house and they happen to be there, these individuals are armed and causing the home invasions to take place and confronting the homeowners,” said Sgt. Matt McGinnis.
On July 4, police said they had been trying to find a man named Jeremey Caldwell, aka “J-Rock,” for shooting a homeowner during an invasion.
“He’s been the ringleader, the one organizing and putting it together, so we wanted him,” McGinnis said.
Last week, Caldwell and two other suspects — Terryion Anderson and Jalen Huff, were arrested in Miami.
A Fulton County grand jury indicted the two dozen alleged gang members on a total of 220 offenses on Monday morning after Sandy Springs detectives flew to Florida to question them over the weekend.
“We’re moving forward with a RICO case, as well as gang charges, burglary, aggravated assault, armed robbery, possession of a firearm,” McGinnis said.
Police have arrested 20 of the 24 suspects, but they promise to find and actively seek out the remaining four.
According to the police, many individuals left the area, and some went to Florida after the arrests last month. Since then, there have been no more house invasions, burglaries, or robberies.
The three suspects arrested in Miami will be brought home and detained in Fulton County Jail.
