Are you down to bare it all in public?
As summer winds down and the heat wanes, it seems like the perfect time to hit a nude beach (or any beach, really). This piece is for those feeling a little risquè and bold enough to frolic butt naked among a crowd of people.
Take a look at some of the world’s best beaches where it’s legal to sunbathe and swim while wearing only your birthday suit.
Black’s Beach has been a favorite in California. The ocean water sits just below the 100-meter-high cliffs of Torrey Pines in La Jolla. The location reigns in popularity and at one point was the nation’s only legal nude beach, for fifty years to be exact.

Haulover Beach Park near Miami, Florida, has been dubbed the most popular public U.S. nude beach by CNN, with more than 1.3 million beachgoers traveling there each year. Like many nude beaches, wearing clothes is optional and beach chairs and umbrellas are available for rent. On the plus side, the beach has lifeguards, but I can’t say if they’re nude or not.
Haulover attracts its biggest crowds during National Nude Recreation Week in July and whenever the beach tries to set a new Guinness World Record for skinny dipping.

Also on the list is Red Beach, a secluded shore that sits on the south side of Crete, Greece. It has become an attraction for sunbathers who want no tan lines. The destination is reachable by a 20-minute hike from Matala or a boat ride from the village waterfront. It’s also the home to a popular bar called Yiannis that’s become widely known for its mojitos.

Lady Bay Beach, located in the land down under, is among the best as well. There are several official nude beaches in Australia, one being the small and narrow Lady Bay which sits inside the South Head of Sydney Harbour. Despite its size, the beach is incredibly secluded, and sunbathers often use the rocky ledges surrounding it to get some sun.

Platja des Cavallet in Ibiza, Spain, is near Ibiza’s southernmost point and is an official nudist beach that sets itself apart because it’s separated into different sections. Beachgoers can enjoy the club party area, a gay scene, or the secluded section that lies in the middle and is open to those who want to go clothes-free. Just know, it’s not just people but flamingos that’ll see you naked too.
Maui, Hawaii, offers its Little Beach to nudists. Boarded by ancient lava flows and near a volcanic cinder cone, the beach is part of Makena State Park on the island’s southeast and overlooks a national marine sanctuary. And if you’re lucky enough to travel there on a Sunday, be sure to stay until sunset because that’s when a drum circle and fire dancers come out to entertain.
Last on the list is Mpenjati Beach in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. It’s the country’s only nude beach and likely the only legal area that allows nudity on the entire African continent. The beach is located in the Mpenjati Nature Reserve, south of Durban.
Although it’s legal to walk around naked, officials made a list of prohibitions, including no staring, no photography, and no lewd behavior. However, that hasn’t stopped local clergy and others protests against the naked attraction.
Now that you have a list, who’s planning a naked group adventure?
