California is currently experiencing a water drought, with officials calling out celebs who haven’t followed the state’s rules on water usage.
Apparently, Kim and Kourtney Kardashian, Dwyane Wade, Kevin Hart, and Sylvester Stallone are among the list of celebs who have violated.
The Skims founder, 41, and her older sister, 43, were among more than 2,000 customers who were sent “notices of exceedance” by the Las Virgenes Municipal Water District, according to a report obtained by the Los Angeles Times. The notices indicate that those customers used 150 percent or more of their monthly water limits, notably, at least four times since the district announced a drought emergency late last year.
The district has the authority to install flow restrictor devices — which can stop sprinklers and decrease water pressure in showers — for those properties that received the notices, US Magazine reported.
On June 1, the Las Virgenes district put in place “Stage 3” restrictions to reduce half water usage. Those rules also limit outdoor watering of lawns and plants to once a week, with only eight minutes of use per station on the selected day.
At the beginning of 2022, the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California imposed its strictest-ever restrictions during the Golden State’s driest period. Residents were urged to cut back their water usage to about 80 gallons per person per day.
Las Virgenes is the area where many celebrities and wealthy people reside. According to the Times, the district confirmed that its customers happen to be some of the highest water users in the region.
“We’re asking them to not just minimize their water usage, but we’re also asking them, in a way, to just completely rethink what is aesthetically pleasing to them and how that’ll impact their property values,” Las Virgenes spokesperson Mike McNutt told the newspaper. “And that is not something that happens overnight.”
