Tiger Woods is launching a new golf competition alongside fellow professional golfer Rory McIlroy.
Look, one thing about Tiger when it comes to golf… he means business. And that business extends behind the grassy plains of the golf courses he plays on. In a new partnership with the PGA Tour comes a collaborative business deal to create and launch TGL, a new golf completion.
CNN Sports reports that TGL will feature six teams of three PGA tour players, and the games will be shown during a primetime hour on Monday nights. The idea for the competition came from the desire to capture the attention of younger audiences.
The completion will be held in custom-built arenas. During the 15 matches, each shot will be taken in a two-hour window as viewers watch from the sidelines. CNN Sports reports that the competition will also have playoffs and a championship match.
“We all know what it’s like to be in a football stadium or a basketball arena where you can watch every play, every minute of action unfold right in front of you,” said Woods. “It’s something that inherently isn’t possible in traditional golf — and an aspect of TGL that will set it apart and appeal to a new generation of fans.”
The competition will open in 2024
