A 3-year-old girl reportedly woke up at her own funeral and died just hours later. Now her family is suing the hospital that declared her dead.
A hospital in Mexico called Salinas de Hidalgo Basic Community Hospital is being sued by the family of Camila Roxana Martinez Mendoza over the toddler’s death. Back on Aug. 17, the child was taken to the hospital for dehydration after she started experiencing stomach pain, fever, and vomiting, Fox News reports.
After being prescribed a medication called paracetamol, she was sent home. However, after her symptoms worsened, a private doctor advised the family to take her back to the hospital. During their second trip back, the family said the hospital was negligent in the care of Camila, allegedly taking a long time to provide her with oxygen and intravenous fluids.
After being taken to a locked room where she couldn’t be reached, Camila’s mother says she was later pronounced dead. Her funeral was held the next day. At some point during the funeral, Camilla’s mother noticed condensation on the child’s glass casket, but funeral attendees told her she was hallucinating. But then she said she saw the girl’s eyes moving. She was then taken to the hospital, where she was again declared dead. Camila’s heart rate was 97 beats per minute and then dropped to 35.
“I have no grudge against the doctors [who] went to extreme [measures],” Mary Jane Peralta told El Universal San Luis Potosí, Fox News reports. “I only ask that the doctors, nurses, and directors be changed so that it does not happen again.”
