Jamaican Government Announces 12-Day Mourning Period to Mark Death of Queen Elizabeth II, No Celebratory Activities Should Occur

The Jamaican government has announced that there will be a 12-day mourning period for Queen Elizabeth II from September 8 to 19.

According to the Office of the Prime Minister, during the mourning period, all flags on the public buildings will be flown at half-mast and its customary recommendation that no celebratory activities take place.

All social gatherings must be postponed on the Day of Mourning, and only authorized activities related to the day are permitted.

From September 12 to September 19, King’s House will display a condolence book, and similar books will be set up in all parishes’ Offices of the Custodes.

On September 10, King Charles III’s proclamation and ascension to the throne will be celebrated. All flags will be flown between 8 am and 1 pm to commemorate the declaration. In addition, the Jamaica Defense Force will fire a 21-gun salute at 11 am.

According to OPM, additional announcements will be made on the dates and times of the National Memorial Service and other official parish services.
