Roger Federer has announced he will be retiring from the ATP Tour and grand slams after the Laver Cup in London.
First Serena, now 41-year-old tennis star Roger Federer. On Wednesday, Federer announced via Instagram that he would be taking his leave from the tennis court for good.
“I am 41 years old. I have played more than 1500 matches over 24 years. Tennis has treated me more generously than I ever would have dreamt, and now I must recognize when it is time to end my competitive career,” he wrote in the post.
In his post, the 20-time grand slam winner mentioned the slew of injuries he’s had over the years and his recovery journey. “As many of you know, the past three years have presented me with challenges in the form of injuries and surgeries,” he said.
“I’ve worked hard to return to full competitive form. But I also know my body’s capacities and limits, and its message to me lately has been clear,” the tennis player went on. He ended his post by thanking his competitors and shared that his final ATP event will be in London next week.
