The legal drama between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard has already been adapted into a film set to debut this month.

If you recall, the former couple had been embroiled in a nasty defamation lawsuit. Depp sued Heard for accusing him of abusing her during their marriage. In a 2018 op-ed, she said she was the victim of domestic violence, and though Heard never named Depp by name in the write-up, on June 1st, a jury declared that she indeed defamed the actor, who was awarded $10 million in damages. Heard was awarded $2 million in a countersuit.

As they continue through the appeal process, a film titled “Hot Take: The Depp/Heard Trial” will make its way exclusively to Tubi on September 30th. Starring Mark Hapka as Depp and Megan Davis as Heard, the film takes viewers inside their tumultuous relationship in and outside the courtroom. The two-month trial will be the highlight of the film, as well as the media obsession with the case. Melissa Marty will take on the role of Depp’s lawyer Camille Vasquez, while Mary Carrig will portray Heard’s lawyer, Elaine Bredehoft.

Though it may be a quick turnaround for a movie, “Hot Take” is no half-assed indie film. Presented by Fox Entertainment’s MarVista Entertainment, “Hot Take” was written by Guy Nicolucci and directed by Sara Lohman. Angie Day, Brittany Clemons, Marianne C. Wunch, Hannah Pillemer, and Fernando Szew served as executive producers, with Autumn Federici and Kristifor Cvijetic taking on the roles of producers under their Ninth House umbrella.

“Connecting viewers to stories with this kind of social currency and topicality makes watching them a must for any fan of pop culture or celebrity drama,” stated Hannah Pillemer, EVP of creative affairs for MarVista.
