The REVOLT Summit X AT&T wrapped this past weekend with another star-studded event full of celebrity appearances and viral cultural moments.
The two-day experience kicked off Saturday, where hosts Pretty Vee and Fly Guy DC welcomed the local Atlanta community. The day continued with insightful and unfiltered conversations led by today’s cultural leaders, including discussions with Boosie, Coi Leray, and Smino.
In an exclusive interview with Baller Alert at the Summit, Boosie shared how social media has impacted his career.
“When I came home from prison, I felt like I had a negative look, and social media made me approachable,” he said. “Even though they always ban me, I love social media. I love the money it brings. It opens up a lot of jobs for people across the world.”
Attendees also tuned into “Cancel Culture,” an insightful conversation with Amber Rose, Nene Leakes, and Ray J.
Rapper Coi Leray also checked in with Baller Alert to share her perspective on the topic. “Right is Right, and wrong is wrong, but so is bullying. I feel like everybody deserves a second chance. God gives second chances,” she said. “There’s always room for growth, so before you try to cancel somebody, try to understand where they are coming from. “People yourself in their shoes and think about where you can help them before canceling them.”
Real Housewives of Atlanta fan favorite Nene Leakes has been on both ends of the “Cancel Culture” train and shares how it’s affected her. “If the culture stuck together and really supported those that need the support, things would be better,” she said. “People don’t really know what happens behind the scenes. There’s a lot of politics involved. It’s really is hurtful.”
Although many people shared their dislike for the popular trend, Ray J explained why it’s “sometimes necessary.” The R&B singer referenced the situation between him and Kim Kardashian as an example of why cancel culture isn’t bad. “You can’t stop the new wave of things. All you can do is stay true to what you do,” he said. “A lot of times, cancel culture is necessary when people do things that are out of bounds. Cancel cultures stops when the truth is right in front of you.”
Additional events throughout the day include REVOLT’s Signature event, BE HEARD, a music-focused talent competition that gave everyone a shot at BEING HEARD, which returned bigger than ever before. The crowd jumped out of their seats as the six young contestants stepped on stage and showcased their musical talents. Judges D.J. Drama, Tek, Rapsody, and more, named upcoming singer and songwriter Bae Gil as the newly crowned winner, who was awarded the grand prize of $10,000.
The day also included terrific live performances by Lakeyah, Baby Tate, and Nardo Wick.
