Cowboys J.J. Wilcox, a second year safety, lit up Pro Bowl receiver Dez Bryant after a pass completion during the Cowboy’s Blue & White Scrimmage in Oxnard, California on Sunday. Needless to say Dez was NOT happy about the play and things got pretty heated.
After a quick recovery Dez got off the ground and immediately charged after Wilcox, headbutting him. Wilcox returned the favor by throwing blows and this sparked the fight — the first real fight of Cowboys camp.
“I wanted him,” Bryant said. “He pissed me off. But you know, man, it was in the heat of the moment. When things got calmed down, I told him I loved it. Keep it coming.”
It’s not uncommon for things to get a little “real” during training camp, especially in a super contact sport like football. According to Bryant, he’s just trying to ignite a passion in his team mates. This may do the trick. “It’s just a chip on our shoulder,” said Wilcox, who has the potential to be an intimidating presence in the secondary. “We’ve been 32nd for the last year. It’s time to step up.”
