Several NBA players, including LeBron James, have begun investing in a Major League Pickleball team.
Pickleball, which seems to be similar to tennis in playing style – is an indoor or outdoor game where two or four players use a racket or paddle to hit a ball over a net. On Wednesday, the Pickleball league announced three NBA players — LeBron James, Draymond Green and Kevin Love — are now investors in the sport alongside James’ business partner Maverick Carter.
“The new ownership group announced today brings unparalleled experience and impact across sports, media, entertainment, and branding,” reads the league’s press release, CBS news reports. “With this group, MLP aims to expand the community beyond its current participants into more diverse communities globally.”
There are currently no details on which teams the ballers bought. However, the league mentioned that it would be adding four new teams to its list of 12 teams.
“Pickleball is the fastest-growing sport in the country, building communities in cities and towns all over the world,” said MLP Founder Steve Kuhn in an announcement, CBS news reports. “This investment and the platform that this group provides will significantly help us with our goal to reach 40 million pickleball players by 2030.”
