Kanye West is defending his decision to use the slogan “White Lives Matter” on the back of t-shirts during his Yeezy Paris Fashion Week show.

Several people were outraged after they saw Kanye walking down the runway earlier this week in a t-shirt that blatantly disrespected the Black Live Matter movement.

One person, in particular, was not moved by Kanye’s antics.

Vogue Fashion Editor Gabriella Karefa-Johnson took to her Instagram to share her thoughts on the matter, describing Kanye’s stunt as “pure violence.”

“Here come the bullsh*t,” she wrote, “I’m fuming… collecting my thoughts…. dm for my working thesis. Indefensible behavior.”

Shortly after, Karefa-Johnson shared a text thread with one of her friends.

“I guess I get what he tried to do– he thought it was Duchampian. It wasn’t. It didn’t land, and it was deeply offensive, violent, and dangerous.” she said. “I’m still processing, and there’s some further investigation/interrogation that took place…but this was my gut reaction…”

In a follow-up post, she said, “There is no excuse; there is no art here. I’m sorry I failed to make that clear– I thought I did. I do think if you asked Kanye, he’d say there was art, and revolution, and all of the things in that t-shirt.”

She added, “As we all work through the trauma of this moment, especially those of us who suffered in that room, let’s have some grace for one another.”

In true Kanye West form, he posted a comment that mocked Karefa-Johnson.

“Everyone Knows That Black Lives Matter Was a Scam.” He said, “Now It’s Over. You’re Welcome.”

Unfortunately, Kayne wasn’t letting up. He then took more shots at the fashion editor by posting photos of her on his Instagram account.

“This is not a fashion You speak on Ye Ima speak on you Ask Trevor Noah,” he wrote.

“I KNOOOOOOOOOOOW ANNA HAAAAAAATES THESE BOOTS,” the following comment read.

Moments later, Kanye posted a screenshot of a text message he received from someone named ‘Mowalola’ that read: “I also don’t think u should insult that writer. U could actually hv real conversation about the tee.”

Since then, Kanye shared one last post on his Instagram, “WHEN I SAID WAR, I MEANT WAR.”
