Kanye West caused quite the stir when he debuted his “WHITE LIVES MATTER” t-shirts at his Yeezy Szn 9 show for Paris Fashion Week. Now, the Black Lives Matter Organization is firing back at Ye for his “performative” stunt.
BLM was forced to speak up after Ye responded to the backlash on Instagram, stating, “Everyone knows Black Lives Matter was a scam.” This was not well received by the group, which has done a huge amount of good for the Black community and the battle for equal rights despite some documented financial scandals.
“The stunt was a clear affront to Black Lives Matter, which has been measured as the largest racial justice movement in history,” Black Lives Matter Grassroots said in a statement. They also slammed the sneaker mogul for allowing Black models to walk the show wearing the “WHITE LIVES MATTER” and “ALL LIVES MATTER” gear, pointing out that both slogans have been used in violent attacks and rebuttal against Black and brown people.
Political commentator Candace Owens was also by Ye’s side during the show and rocked the controversial tee alongside him. Owens has been a long-time critic of the BLM movement and an avid Trump supporter.
“Kanye West and Candace Owens sent a performative dog whistle to millions. Kanye knows very well that ‘white lives’ have never been targeted for oppression,” the BLM statement continued.
West has not responded to the statement. However, it is only a matter of time before he does.
