Eclipse, The Seattle Dog That Took The Bus To The Dog Park By Herself, Has Died

Eclipse the dog

The black-Labrador mastiff that rose to fame for taking the bus by herself to the dog park has died.

Eclipse’s death was announced on her Facebook page on Friday. The 10-year-old mixed breed dog “passed in her sleep about 7 this morning.” The news came just days after announcing that she had been diagnosed with “cancerous tumors.”

“Eclipse was a super sweet, world-famous, bus riding dog and true Seattle icon,” King County Metro tweeted. “You brought joy and happiness to everyone and showed us all that good dogs belong on the bus.”

Eclipse gained notoriety in 2015 after taking the bus to the dog park herself. She first took the bus alone when her owner, Jeff Young, took too long smoking a cigarette. Eclipse boarded the bus without him and had learned to ride the D-Line from previous trips.

Since then, she’s taken enough solo trips that the bus drivers knew her.

“People on the bus, now, they look for her,” Young told TODAY back in 2015. “She really makes their day. … If I show up without her, people are like, ‘Hi. Where’s Eclipse?'”
