Cannabis will be delivered in Toronto starting on Monday thanks to a partnership between the food delivery services Uber Eats, Leafly, and local vendors.
The delivery platform is the first of its kind to offer cannabis delivery.
To place the order, customers must be 19 years or older. Uber Eats will then deliver the order to Hidden Leaf, Minerva, or Shivaa’s Rose, three local cannabis retailers. A government-certified employee will make the delivery, and upon arrival, customers will be asked to verify their age and sobriety.
Besides keeping impaired drivers off the road, Leafly and Uber Eats say their new delivery service will be a tool to combat Ontario’s illegal underground cannabis market, which accounts for more than 50% of nonmedical marijuana sales.
