Drake Turns Up the Heat On “Fake Drake,” Forces Him to Change His Name

Drake is officially over “Fake Drake,” using his name and likeness to make money.

The “real” Drake has sat by patiently throughout the last year as his impersonator conducted interviews, released music, and booked gigs, all while dubbing himself “Fake Drake.” Real name Izzy, the 22-year-old previously stated during a sit-down with “No Jumper” that Champagne Papi had given him his blessing to carry on as him. However, it doesn’t appear that is the case at all.

On Monday, Izzy gave the actual Drake a birthday shoutout and shared a photo of the cease and desist letter he received from the rapper’s camp, demanding that he stop using the OVO trademark and Drake’s name to promote his endeavors. Izzy said that as a “respectful b-day gift” to Drizzy, he would be changing his moniker to Izzy Famous.

To some, the letter is long overdue. In that “No Jumper” interview, Izzy admitted that he was making around $5,000 per appearance for promoters who could not afford the actual Aubrey Graham at their events. He also claimed that Drake threatened to beat him up during an encounter in Miami.

Nevertheless, it looks like the days of “Fake Drake” are behind us, ending a phenomenon that gained traction over the past two years. Rapper impersonators have popped up across social media, hoping for their chance to go viral. Fans pretending to be Lil Durk and even King Von have sparked debate about when the line is blurred between being a fan and being a creep. Thankfully, the trend appears to be dying, making way for less damaging yet equally corny fads.
