Clorox Issues Recall of 37 Million Pine-Sol Products Due to Infection Causing Bacteria

Millions of Pine-Sol products have been recalled by Clorox over worries that they could contain a potentially harmful bacteria.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the move Tuesday, saying eight multi-surface cleaning products may contain Pseudomonas aeruginosa, a potentially harmful environmental organism.
People with weakened immune systems risk contracting the bacteria, mainly found in soil and water.

“The bacteria can enter the body if inhaled, through the eyes, or through a break in the skin,” the CPSC wrote. “People with healthy immune systems are usually not affected by the bacteria.”

Approximately 37 million Pine-Sol products manufactured at Clorox’s Forest Park, Georgia, facility have been recalled between January 2021 and September 2022.
The affected items include CloroxPro Pine-Sol All Purpose Cleaners in Lavender Clean, Sparkling Wave, Lemon Fresh, and Orange Energy scents, as well as Pine-Sol Scented Multi-Surface Cleaners in Lavender Clean, Sparkling Wave, and Lemon Fresh smells.
The products are sold in bottles of 28, 48, 60, 100, 144, and 175 fluid ounces.
There hasn’t been a recall for the Original Pine-Sol in Pine scent.

According to Clorox, the bottles were offered for sale on Amazon and in well-known stores like Walmart, Target, Kroger, and Dollar Tree. Any bottle’s label can be scanned to reveal a date code that starts with “A4” followed by a five-digit number.

A recall has been issued for the product if the number is less than 22249. Consumers are advised to take images of the date code and 12-digit UPC before discarding the bottle.

Consumers can expect to receive a full refund of the purchase price.
