Philadelphia Deputy Sheriff Arrested After Allegedly Selling Firearms Used In A Shooting To An FBI Informant

Samir Ahmad

A former Philadelphia sheriff’s deputy was arrested for selling firearms used in a shooting near a school.

Four-year veteran, Samir Ahmad, was arrested on federal gun trafficking charges for unlawfully selling firearms to a person. Ahmad reportedly sold two handguns to a confidential informant while being an active deputy sheriff.

Federal prosecutors were able to trace the firearms to a shooting that occurred outside Roxborough High School. The shooting left one teenager killed and four others wounded.

During the exchange, the informant allegedly told Ahmad that he could “get deported” if he was caught with the gun. Ahmad responded, “You don’t got to worry about none of that” and reportedly made $3,000 for the sale.

“Samir Ahmad abused his authority to the greatest extent possible as a sworn law enforcement officer,” U.S. Attorney Jacqueline C. Romero said. “The defendant was allegedly illegally selling firearms on the street to at least one person who was not permitted to possess them, adding fuel to the already-incendiary fire of deadly gun violence in the City of Philadelphia. Working with our law enforcement partners, we are doing all that we can to investigate and prosecute those responsible for the violence.”

Ahmad had been a part of the sheriff’s office since February 2018. The officer was terminated from his position following his arrest. If convicted, Ahmad will face a maximum sentence of 15 years.
