Adidas halts the re-release of one of Kobe Bryant’s signature sneakers.

The shoe company had plans of re-releasing their Laker-themed Crazy 1 sneakers on October 22nd. Unfortunately, days leading up to the launch, Adidas recalled the shoes due to a quality control issue.

In a correspondence sent to retailers, Adidas did not specify the details the issue. However, a source with knowledge of the recall says the shoes were suffering from creasing in the upper’s foam material.

Adidas originally released the Crazy 1 sneakers in 2000 under the name “Kobe 1.” The company revamped the shoes after Kobe left Adidas and signed with Nike in 2003.

The Crazy 1 sneakers were initially set to release in April but was pushed back. Many commenters have expressed their confusing, wondering why the sneakers never dropped.

To add to the confusion, the product page for the Crazy 1 shoes on Adidas website now redirects buyers to a range of other basketball shoes.

A new release date for the sneakers has not been announced, but some retailers have decided to avoid the recall and proceed with selling the shoes.
