Jay-Z & Jeff Bezos Putting Their Billions Together to Purchase the Washington Commanders

Billionaires Jay-Z and Jeff Bezos are in talks of purchasing the Washington Commanders.

On Thursday, TMZ Sports reported that the businessmen wanted to form an alliance to purchase the NFL team, which is valued at $5.6 billion. Rapper and Roc Nation founder Jay-Z has shown interest in acquiring the team for some time, and Bezos, already having ties to the area, is the perfect person to assist with the acquisition.

The Amazon founder is the owner of the Washington Post newspaper and has established an $11 billion deal with the NFL to stream “Thursday Night Football” on Amazon Prime Video. HOV also has ties to football, with professional players Saquon Barkley, Dez Bryant, Leonard Fournette, and Todd Gurley, all being represented by his Roc Nation Sports imprint. It appears Jay had a change of heart about team ownership after initially shutting down talks of possessing a team in 2019. However, that same year, he received immense backlash for partnering with the NFL to help with their social justice efforts, which may explain why he backed away from potentially having his own team.

News of the men wanting to oversee the team arrived just one day after the Commanders issued a statement confirming that current owners Daniel and Tanya Snyder were considering potential offers with the help of Bank of America Securities, though no decisions have been made.

Daniel Snyder looking to offload the team comes amid the Washington Commanders experiencing the lowest ticket sales of any team in the NFL. Sexual misconduct and verbal abuse allegations within the organization have left fans and other team owners turned off.

Neither Jay-Z nor Bezos has responded publicly to the reports.
