On Friday, an Iowa teen escaped a women’s center in Des Moines after recently being sentenced to five years probation for killing her alleged rapist.
According to a probation violation record obtained by the Des Moines Register, Pieper Lewis, 18, left the Fresh Start Women’s Center around 6:15 a.m. and disabled her GPS monitor.
Two years ago, Lewis stabbed 37-year-old Zachary Brooks to death in a fit of rage after he repeatedly raped her at 15.  She was sentenced in September and ordered to pay Brooks’ family $150,000.
Despite Lewis’ allegations of sex trafficking, prosecutors argued Brooks was asleep when he was stabbed and thus did not pose an immediate threat.
Lewis originally faced up to 20 years in prison for involuntary manslaughter and willful injury.  However, Polk County Judge David M. Porter gave Lewis a deferred judgment.
A warrant has been issued for her arrest, and according to a Friday probation violation report, it was recommended that her deferred judgment be revoked, and her original sentence be imposed.
