The University of Kentucky student seen hurling racial slurs and physically assaulting another student in a viral video has been arrested.
On Sunday morning, Sophia Rosing was arrested while working an overnight shift and has been charged with assault, public intoxication, disorderly conduct, and assault of a police officer.
In the video, the 22-year-old suspect repeatedly spouts racial slurs at a black female student, Kylah Spring, who was on duty as a desk clerk in the school dormitory at the time. Rosling is heard saying the n-word over and over.
According to her arrest citation, Rosing told police that she “has lots of money and gets special treatment.” The citation also said she kicked and bit a police officer during her arrest.
UK President Eli Capilouto released a statement saying they are investigating the incident and that the actions in the video are “deeply antithetical to what we are and what we always want to be as a community.”
Rosing appeared in court for her arraignment Monday afternoon. She pleaded not guilty, and her bond was set at $10,000.
