In the past few weeks, Cornell University has been investigating a series of drug-laced drinks and at least one sexual assault.
After the “drugging of at least four students” and sexual assault at off-campus Greek life residences, the Ivy League school announced on Monday that they have temporarily suspended all fraternity social events.
Cornell President Martha E. Pollack and Student and Campus Life Vice President Ryan Lombardi said they are “outraged and saddened” by the reports.

“These incidents reportedly occurred at off-campus residences affiliated with registered fraternities,” they said.  “We strongly condemn the actions of all individuals responsible for these criminal violations.”

In an alert released on Friday, the Cornell University Police Department said there had been “at least four incidents” since September 24 in which students claimed they “were exposed to Rohypnol (also known as “roofies”).”
There was another incident reported just a day before at 800 University Ave., home of Theta Delta Chi fraternity.
The Ithaca Police Department is also investigating an incident that occurred around 4:45 a.m. Sunday, where another student reported being sexually assaulted at an event near Alpha Epsilon Pi house on Thurston Ave.
The Interfraternity Council (IFC), which oversees all of the school’s IFC-recognized fraternities, suggested the suspension of the fraternity during an emergency meeting on Sunday night so that they could “take this time to implement stronger health and safety plans,” according to the university’s news release.

“No IFC-affiliated social events will resume until student leaders and Cornell staff are confident activities can take place responsibly and safely,” the statement added.
