The Recording Academy has announced its nominees for the 2023 Grammy Awards. Beyonce is the leading contender, with a total of nine nods. With a career total of 88 nominations, Queen Bey now ties with her husband, Jay Z, as the most nominated artist in Grammys history.
Kendrick Lamar follows behind the “Break My Soul” artist with eight nods at this year’s show, including bids for the album, record, and song of the year.
Adele nabbed seven nominations, including best pop vocal album, best music video, and best music film for her Emmy-winning concert Adele One Night Only. The UK pop star will compete with Beyonce for record, album, and song of the year.
Lizzo will also compete for song and album of the year, with the former being “About Damn Time” and the ladder titled “Special.” She’ll also compete with the two stars for Record of the Year.
Future, Mary J. Blige, DJ Khaled, Terius “The Dream” Gesteelde-Diamant, and Randy Merrill followed behind with six nominations each.
Best New Artist nominees include Latto, Anitta, Wet Leg, Måneskin, Latto, Omar Apollo, and Tobe Nwigwe. Latto also snagged a Best Melodic Rap Performance nod for “Big Energy (Live).”
Megan Thee Stallion, who won Best New Artist last year, was shut out of this year’s GRAMMYs, failing to secure a nomination in any category. The rap superstar released her sophomore album, Traumatize, this year, with successful lead singles “Her” and “Plan B.”
DJ Khaled, Jack Harlow, Future, and Kendrick Lamar are all going toe-to-toe for Best Rap Album, Best Rap Song, and Best Melodic Rap Performance.
After a successful year, GloRilla received her first Grammy nod in the Best Rap Performance category for her “F.N.F. (Let’s Go)” hit song with Hitkidd.
