Hot 97 radio show host Peter Rosenberg didn’t read the room or feel the awkward vibe while interviewing the iconic Kelly Rowland.
The cringe-worthy interview left many in an uproar after Rosenberg repeatedly suggested Rowland played second to Beyonce during their time as Destiny’s Child.
On Thursday, he tweeted a video clip of him talking about the incident with his co-hosts on the show “Ebro in the Morning.”
“I messed up,” he wrote.
In the video, he tells his co-hosts Laura Stylez and Ebro Darden that he realized he “messed up” following the interview with the singer and said he sent her a message to apologize.
“I fumbled the ball,” he said, adding, “Kelly Rowland, to me ― it’s like so obvious that she’s an iconic star that like I didn’t think twice about bringing it up as a conversation.”
Rosenberg also said he understood why people criticized him for the incident.
Rowland and actor Marsai Martin appeared on “Ebro in the Morning” to talk about their new movie, “Fantasy Football.” It was during the show that Rosenberg said to Rowland that her being in the legendary music group with Beyoncé was like standing next to “the brightest light on planet earth.”
The Grammy winner stayed poised and responded by saying, “Here’s the thing: light attracts light. I am light.”
“I am a beautiful brown shining light. So I don’t think anybody’s light dims anyone else’s. I think that when other people start to compare you … that’s when it shows how dim they are of themselves,” she continued.
Twitter users applauded Rowland’s graceful response after the interview circulated online, including Halle Berry who tweeted: “Kelly Rowland is a beautiful soul and human being.”
