Kyrie Irving donates $65,000 to the family of Shanquella Robinson’s GoFundMe page.
Irving recently stepped up to assist in aiding the family of the deceased 25-year-old by making a significant donation. The NBA player made two separate financial contributions: one being $50,000 and the other $15,000.
The family created the GoFundMe to help cover funeral expenses and legal fees as they continue to find justice for Shanquella. As of Saturday, the page received more than $317,000 with Irving being a top donor. In addition, NBA veteran Kemba Walker has also donated $20,000.
If you’re not aware, the North Carolina native took a trip to Mexico with a group of friends and never returned back to the states. Rumors quickly circulated around social media of what happened to Shanquella.
“My beautiful sister Shanquella Robinson, recently went on a trip to Cabo, Mexico, with people she believed were her friends,” Shanquella’s sister wrote on the GoFundMe page. “During this trip, she was found dead. Her associates claimed she died of alcohol poisoning. But the death certificate from the Mexican government contradicts this statement. It reveals a broken neck and cracked spine and a time of death which is 15 minutes after she sustained these injuries.”
Shortly after news broke, a video surfaced online of Shanquella seemingly drunk, getting into a fight with another woman. In the clip, the woman punches and throws Shanquella to the ground. The person recording the incident is heard asking Shanquella could she “at least fight back” to which she responded, “no.”
According to Shanquella’s sister, the U.S. State Department claims there is “no clear evidence of foul play.”
“Yet there is a video circulating of a woman violently attacking Shanquella. This statement is unacceptable, and we are beyond devastated. We continue to fight for the truth,” her sister says.
