DaBaby is making sure fans know that he sits among the hip-hop greats.
During his recent sit down with My Expert Opinion with Math Hoffa, the “BOP” rapper spoke confidently about where he sees himself in the rap industry. Baby explained that certain songs he puts out are “business moves,” tailored for whatever will sell at the moment. However, when it comes to more serious music that requires him to display his lyrical capabilities, Baby is sure that he is on the same playing field as some of the biggest names. He’ll even go “Eminem level” on certain beats.
“You gotta go get Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, I don’t wanna disrespect nobody,” the 30-year-old stated around the 4:48 mark before adding, “I’m like that.”
DaBaby’s comments come amid weeks of fans and critics alike debating whether or not the Grammy-nominated artist had fallen off. Low album and ticket sales have plagued Baby in recent months. Most recently, his viral buy one, get one free concert ticket deals have made him the butt of jokes on social media. Nevertheless, he doesn’t appear too phased by the backlash, even embracing it by sharing a video on Instagram showing a packed arena at one of his shows.
“Whoever paying them blogs to post dat bulls**t needa get they money back,” he wrote in the caption.

This is not the first time DaBaby has voiced his opinion regarding where he stands in hip-hop. Back in February, he also boasted of being one of the best artists in the game, adding Nas and Jay-Z to the list of those to whom he compares to.
Do you think DaBaby has reached icon status, or does he still have a long way to go?
