New charges have been brought against a white father and son who are suspected of pursuing and shooting at a black FedEx driver in January.
Gregory Case, 58, and his son Brandon Case, 35, of Mississippi, were charged on Friday by a grand jury with attempted first-degree murder, conspiracy, and shooting into a moving vehicle.
The fact that both individuals were only charged in the case with conspiracy and aggravated assault led to widespread accusations of racism in Brookhaven.
It’s been over ten months since D’Monterrio Gibson, 24, the FedEx driver, fought for the two men to be charged.
“It was an extremely long process to get this far into the case,” Gibson said. “I feel like most of the time; I was treated like a suspect rather than a victim.”
Earlier this year, it was reported that two men from Mississippi aggressively chased down a FedEx driver while cutting him off the road and shooting at his truck.
Gibson’s lawyer, Carlos Moore, said, “I know that Dr. King said, ‘Justice delayed isn’t justice denied,’ but nearly ten months from the date he was accosted, assaulted, almost killed, we finally have indictments.”
The two men were initially arrested in February and released on bonds for a lesser charge.
Both men are currently being held on $500,000 bonds.
