Texas Scammer Posing As An Oil Baron Says His Scheme Is 'More Wild' Than Anna Delvey Sorokin Or Frank Abagnale Jr.'s

A Texas scammer is claiming that his tale of deceit is far more interesting than that of socialite Anna Delvey Sorokin or famed forger Frank Abagnale Jr.

Nicholas Bryant, 26, defrauded at least 50 people out of around $1.5 million to fund his lavish lifestyle by pretending to be an oil tycoon.

Northern Texas US Attorney Chad E. Meachum first compared Bryant with the other two high-profile scammers. He described Bryant as “on his way to becoming Lubbock’s Anna Delvey or Frank Abagnale” in a statement.

“My story might be more wild than theirs,” Bryant said to The Daily Beast, in comparing his exploits to that of Sorokin and Abagnale. “I can almost guarantee it!”

Bryant made his money by exploiting payment platforms like QuickBooks and Veem. He would book luxury goods and services and manipulate the system to make it appear as if the payments were pending.

He used the funds to charter private jets, stay at high-end hotels, buy luxury cars, and rent homes with $30k a night pricetags.

“I took private jets and stayed at the most expensive Airbnbs and hotels. Went deep sea fishing and toured everything that was possible,” he said of his exploits. “I bought and drove five different high-end cars.”

Bryant’s scheme unraveled when he scammed a private jet company out of $76k. The company called the authorities, and it all came crashing down.

Bryant has expressed remorse for his actions but admits that he never intended to pay any of the victims back.

Bryant pleaded guilty to wire fraud charges and is currently awaiting sentencing. He is facing 20 years in prison.
